Posted 70 Hours on Airline Seats.

Handed over £20 notes from a family friend in the UK to my nephews. I made them work to receive the equivalent in dollars.

Lunch with friends at Hell’s Kitchen, Minneapolis. We made different menu choices, but were united by a common ingredient: bacon.

I’m performing an ancient ritual for ancient snowbirds returning to Minnesota: a week of medical appointments. Today: eyes.

Cycled to Bde Maka Ska, the largest lake in Minneapolis. Feasted on fish and chips at Tin Fish for the first time this season

Checked credit card statements: realized the kind folks at Shanghai Pudong had given me a free ticket to Seoul.

Cycled towards St. Paul for haircuts.

Reverted to my role of parsimonious house-person. Stocked up on spices depleted in my absence. (Total cost: exactly $3.)

Walked to what was the local pub when I was a kid, the only building in the neighborhood with much character. Enjoyed a 20 fluid ounce pint.

Dined at the New New Bengal, Newcastle upon Tyne. We had to change dinner plans a few years ago the night the New Bengal went up in flames.

Day 3, we reached our objective: Ribblehead Viaduct. We were finally, away from it all: no cell signal, no WiFi at our inn. There was beer.
