Our bedroom window framed the Guthrie Theater as we prepared to walk over for “Blithe Spirit.”

Started my Christmas shopping at Ax-Man Surplus.

Hopped onto the wrong bus, got to see Minneapolis from new angles: a wabi-sabi journey.

Walked across the Mississippi to Dinkytown for corned beef hash at Al’s. This 14-stool diner is older than me.

Created a spreadsheet to communicate task dependencies to the developer of our condo. Our tasks to make selections are dependent on the developer completing their tasks. I was tempted to produce a Gantt chart.

Bought vegetables grown in Minneapolis by kids. Transformed some of the root vegetables into a scalloped bake without losing my fingers in the mandoline.

Cycled in search of the 45th parallel. Found a rock, a plaque, and a lost glove.

Simultaneously tutored two students: one about fractions, the other GED English. This felt so much better than thoughts of the politicians and entertainers who are failing us.

The mechanic replaced a damaged chain link then spun the wheel, over and over, while checking gear changes, back and forth, making minor adjustments. He then pumped up the tires. I continued the journey on my well-tuned bike, $10 lighter.

Cycled in shirtsleeve weather past a vaguely ecclesiastical entrance to the athletic field at the University of St. Thomas.

It was time to build the umami inventory: made mirepoix and stock.

Rolled up one pant leg. At this time of year, any day I do that is a bonus.

Prepared dinner with carefully curated ingredients: everything left over from Thanksgiving, except pumpkin pie, stuffing and cranberry. Tomorrow: farce galettes au compote de canneberges (stuffing patties with stewed cranberry for dipping).
