Light Rail Construction

Dec 8, 2020

Our cycle route included several diversions to avoid construction of a light rail system. This elaborate bridge and viaduct will take the cycle trail over an existing freight track, light rail tracks, and a busy road.

Wrapped Bridge Span

Dec 7, 2020

Walked under a span of the 10th Avenue Bridge that had been wrapped for repair. Thought about how artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude had wrapped the Pont Neuf in Paris. For a moment, imagined our Pont Avenue Dix as art.

Trail Lunch

Dec 2, 2020

Long Shadows at Lake Phalen

Got in a 30-miler through long shadows to St. Paul’s Lake Phalen. When you’re a fair-weather cyclist, any chance to ride in December is a bonus

Found this Minneapolis viewpoint on my cycle ride.

Marilyn Merlot

Nov 26, 2020

The 2001 Marilyn Merlot we’d been holding onto most of this millennium for a special occasion was corked. We substituted a cheeky young Pinot Noir to complement our slow-cooked turkey thighs. We’ll reduce Ms Merlot to a syrup to pour over ice cream

Yes, it’s Art

Nov 24, 2020

On my walk through a University of Minnesota campus: three steel lattice beams set in concrete. I recall these were removed during a remodel, and the contractor got permission to create this installation. For some reason, it’s not included in the university’s list of public art.
