Enrolled in a study at the university that tracks my daily activities through a location-aware phone app. The researchers are interested in understanding the time cancer patients dedicate to cancer-care related tasks compared to everyday living. I feel a bit of a fraud because all I have to do is show up at appointments. I’m…… Continue reading I’m Being Watched: But It’s Okay (It’s For Science)

Real Enough
Dentist did a great job preparing a tooth for a crown. On the way home, stopped at Moto-i for comfort food: bibimbap. I felt grateful for modern dentistry and temporarily forgot I had a temporary crown. Christmas Goodies
Grateful for friends and their decadent homemade treats from here in Minnesota and England (that wonderful Christmas cake). Not shown: the best homemade lefse (all gone).
Peeling Back Japan’s Layers
Assembled map layers to help figure out a trip to Japan next March. Layers include a 19th Century journey by explorer Isabella Bird, a 17th Century journey by poet Matsuo Basho, an ancient 88-temple pilgrimage, rural train lines liable to be closed, and OLLE hiking trails on Kyushu. More layers to follow.
ELL Training
Completed an online ELL (English Language Learning) training course this afternoon as part of the annual training requirements set by the Minnesota Department of Education.
Thanksgiving 2023
It’s finally time for dessert: Dwight’s apple crisp and whipped cream. Life is good. Grateful. Table centerpiece by LEGO from a kit, rolling plant racks by Dwight with lighting by Tom.
Almost Home
Cycled home from the university hospital as the sun was setting after a day dominated by medical appointments. Grateful there are new options when I’ll need them. Home is just beyond the end of this tunnel.
A Shout-Out for Evidence-Based Medicine
Spent much of the day on two head-to-toe body scans, including this PET scanner. Same thing, again, every 12 weeks for the study as long as I’m in remission. The study seems to be showing Lutetium-177 PSMA therapy can be effective for men at my stage in the prostate cancer journey. I’m grateful.
AC
Still 88° at 6:00 p.m. Grateful for AC.
MSP–HND
Boarding at MSP with our nephew and his dad. Grateful for this chance to explore Japan together.
