The Road Less Traveled
At Carlton Peak, on the Superior Hiking Trail, the nephews opted for the road less traveled: a pattern repeated throughout the day wherever there were rocks.
En Route to Gitchee-Gami
Our Superior Hiking Trail hike included a ridge trail looking out towards Lake Superior: Cook County 1 to Temperance River, then the Gitchi-Gami trail back to Bluefin Bay for the night.
Full of Life
Nephews, full of life, Bluefin Bay (where we’re staying), north shore of Lake Superior, parents, uncles, and a pumpkin looking on.

Round Every Corner
Wetland view from the Cannon Valley Trail, cycling from Welch to Red Wing, then back to Welch. In Red Wing our destination was a cafe specializing in pies, but it had closed early. My friend didn’t miss a beat and led me to a bake shop round the corner.
My Husband
Drove Dwight home from Methodist Hospital after a routine screening colonoscopy. When asked to identify my relationship to the patient, I replied “husband.” Until just a few years ago, I never imagined the societal shifts that would make it possible to say that.
Old-Fashioned
Monday morning rendezvous with an old-fashioned.
Natural Light
Worked on unobtrusive plant up-lighting, using honeycomb filters to eliminate glare. Then, the sun reminded me there’s nothing like natural backlighting. No artificial light in this photo.
