So we finally did it: a month in Honolulu, Tourist Central.
Mostly our stay was not about visiting interesting places. Ma, the space between, the quiet moments, made this a fine experience. But interesting places there were:
- Battleship Missouri Memorial (Pearl Harbor)
- Bishop Museum
- Byodo-In Temple
- Foster Botanical Garden
- Honolulu Museum of Art
- Kanealole Trail and connected trails in the hills above Honolulu
- Kilohana Hula Show
- Koko Crater Botanical Garden
- Liliʻuokalani Botanical Garden
- National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
- Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture and Design
- Vida Mia, coffee cruise on a motor yacht built in 1929
There were some disappointments. The Byodo-In Temple is not a practicing Buddhist temple, a good visit nonetheless. The sound system at Blue Note Hawaii was sub-par, so I didn’t include the jazz club in the above list.
We made good use of our HOLO transit cards: the bus service on the Island of Oahu is excellent. We got everywhere on foot or by bus.
