Seeking Justice

June 1, 2020. New York Times online front page.

‪We woke up this morning to see our immediate neighborhood on the front of the New York Times.

Last night we looked down from our home at mostly peaceful protesters breaking curfew, while hundreds of police performed a well-orchestrated pincer movement. 150 protesters who chose not to disperse, despite stun grenades and tear gas, were arrested.

Our local paper provides reasonably balanced reporting of last night’s protests. The freeways had been closed to traffic. With curfew time approaching, the protesters walked into our neighborhood off Interstate 35W. They’d survived a large gas tanker truck accelerating towards them on the nearby 35W Mississippi bridge. The reports of the peaceful, good-natured arrests reinforce my faith in humanity.

I’m grateful for our police, and hoping for justice.
