Ice Melting on Windshield

Ice Melting on Windshield

Oct 18, 2020

Ice melted on the windshield over a reflection of Bluefin Bay. We’ll be back again next year.

Warming Up

Oct 17, 2020

We’d expected rain, but instead we got to hike morning and afternoon in a beautiful, slowly transforming world: the first real snowfall of the season. Back at base, the boys recharged with s’mores and cocoa

Group Selfie

Oct 16, 2020

Their dad eventually managed to line them up for a group selfie. A groupie?

Long Drive, Short Hike

Oct 15, 2020

Today: long drive, short hike, our annual visit to the North Shore of Lake Superior. Tomorrow and Saturday our nephews (11 and 13) and their dad join us on the trails.

Glimpse of Fall

Oct 14, 2020

On my walk: Concrete, steel and brick; wind and chill reveal structure; trunk, branch, twig and leaf.

Luce Line to Medicine Lake

Oct 13, 2020

Cycled west out of of Minneapolis on a section of the Luce Line, then around Medicine Lake, my longest ride this year.

Gorp Ingredients

Oct 12, 2020

Stocked up on gorp ingredients for hikes later this week. Overdid the generic M&Ms, so ate some on the way home.

A Trip Untraveled

Oct 11, 2020

Did what I could’ve done months ago: cancelled a December trip to Hawaii we’d booked last March. Judging by the empty seats (middle seats are blocked, blue seats are available), people don’t want to travel. I’d snagged exit rows on all flights, but it was not to be.

Cycling through Fall Colors

Oct 9, 2020

Cycled through fall colors.

New Angles

Oct 8, 2020

Saw our neighborhood from new angles, including from the top of Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam.

Wrong Tom Wilson

Oct 7, 2020

Sometimes I receive emails meant for other Tom Wilsons. Today, received a $100 Amazon digital gift from a complete stranger. Thinking it was a scam, pasted the code into my Amazon account: it worked. It took several emails to convince the sender she might want her money back.

Pig’s Eye

Oct 6, 2020

Cycled past Pig’s Eye Lake, en route to Battle Creek Park. In 1841, the name of the settlement beyond the rail yard was changed from Pig’s Eye to St. Paul.

River Bottom

Oct 5, 2020

People were exploring the newly exposed Mississippi River bottom near our home. The Army Corps of Engineers is slowly lowering the water level by twelve feet so they can inspect infrastructure.

Sunday Morning Tradition

Oct 4, 2020

Went for a walk, as we usually do on a Sunday morning.
