It was raining, so I drove to an appointment. With all the road and bridge construction, my drive became a board game.

Fine Seasonal Lunch

This plus crusty bread made a fine seasonal lunch. Minnesota strawberries are at their best right now: they’re small and flavorful. I’m convinced a strawberry is allocated a fixed amount of flavor, whether it’s big or small.

Cycling Beside Ice

A cool breeze blew off Bde Maka Ska, creating a significant temperature drop as we cycled by. Today is the latest I have seen ice on this lake.

The Language of Springtime

Wild spring onions, nettles, fiddlehead ferns, morels, spruce tips, ramps, the language of springtime. Tonight I’ll make morel risotto.

Ready for Winter

Breakfast at Open Book: coffee, crumb cake, mittens. Ready for a Minnesota winter.
