Transit Apps for a Short Trip

We’re just back from a few days in Chicago. Smartphone apps made travel by train, plane, and bike a breeze. I was able to purchase all transit using my phone.

AppExample Transit Use Cases
Metro Transit–Buy tickets for light rail from home to MSP (Minneapolis airport).
Fly Delta–Check in for flight.
–Display boarding passes.
–Display membership cards.
–Check departure time.
–Check arrival time and gate. (There is no charge for using on-board WiFi with the Fly Delta app.)

We didn’t need these use cases:
–Purchase ticket.
–Re-book flight when there is a cancellation or delay.
–Track checked bags.
FlightAware–Check if inbound flight is on time.
Google Pay–Ride “L” train from Chicago Midway airport. (This works at the barrier, there is no need to buy a ticket.)
Maps–Locate train station.
Chrome–Look up transit options.
Keep–Make notes about which train to catch.
Divvy–Locate shared bike station with an available bike.
–Rent shared bike.
–Locate shared bike station with free rack space.
Ventra–Buy Metra train (heavy rail) ticket.
