Hiked a section of the Nakasendo in Nagano Prefecture. The Nakasendo follows the route of an ancient mail road that ran from Kyoto to Tokyo.

Cycled above the Seto Inland Sea across bridges and islands.

Tonight in Onomichi, a bicycle hotel in a former warehouse: cycle to the front desk, bike rack on wall of room, repair shop, local beer.

Paused my train journey north from Nagasaki to hike one more Kyushu OLLE course. Trail markers include blue and red ribbons.

Took a local train from Fukuoka to a bus to a ferry to Oshima Island in the Sea of Japan. Hiked an OLLE course around the island.

Took a bullet train to Kurume where I hiked an OLLE course. I’ve posted previously about the special trail symbols.

Took a ferry across this bay from Kagoshima to Sakurajima, an active volcano. Circled Sakurajima on a rented bicycle.

Monday evening, now in Kagoshima, southern Japan. The bed is very welcome: I started out from Minneapolis, early Sunday morning.
