Rode a city bus to the Bishop Museum. Traced the Polynesian diaspora, starting in Asia, fanning out through Oceania, ending up in places as far afield as Hawaii and New Zealand.

I smiled, she smiled.

Watched twenty graders, driving in formation, keeping the runways open at MSP during a heavy snowstorm. After a frozen boarding door was fixed, and the plane was de-iced, we were on our way to Honolulu.

Walked the Minneapolis skyways to avoid subzero weather. Stopped for a coffee and pastry at Spyhouse Coffee in the Emery Hotel in a beautifully repurposed bank building.

Wandered through Augsburg University with a friend who studied mathematics there in the 1960’s.

On my walk: The Beginning of Everything, an exhibition of artists’ sketches. It evoked happy memories of the terror and exhilaration, facing down blank documents at the start of projects.

Backed up data to a BitLocker-encrypted thumb drive. All our data backs up continuously, but I like to periodically save a snapshot.

Avoided the wrath of the TSA. Filled 3 fluid ounce silicone travel bottles with sunscreen and toothpaste.

While much of America was watching the Super Bowl, got with family at a pizza restaurant. We’ll enjoy leftovers tomorrow.

Crossed the road for Britten, Beethoven, and Bach.

Nosed around the Butler Square building on a Downtown walk. In 1978, as part of an interview for my first American job, I had dinner here. I was appalled the men’s room had a floor-to-ceiling window: I could see everyone while doing my business, uncertain it was a one-way mirror.

Stepped back in time: bought stamps at our local post office.

On a walk with a friend, viewed the American Swedish Institute’s mansion from its Scandinavian-sleek restaurant.

At the end of a walk, two friends served as witnesses as Dwight and I had our updated estate planning documents notarized. Celebrated next door at fabulous Cardigan Donuts.
