Wild and Violent

Towards the end of my cycle ride, the Mississippi was unusually wild, thanks to the violent storms this week.

Meatless Sausage

Something different on my walk: picked up Italian sausage from a butcher that doesn’t sell meat products, The Herbivorous Butcher. It was good on a pizza for lunch, and the rest will go into our weekly Sausage Saturday cabbage braise.

Swans for Hire

Cycled with a friend to St. Paul’s Lake Como where swan pedal boats clustered offshore.

When The Cat’s Away…

When Dwight drives up to Fargo to visit his mom, I cycle out for tonkotsu ramen, or watch a musical, or fly to Chicago, or some or all of the above. Today I cycled to moto-i for tonkotsu ramen, with sumo on the side. Next up: a musical.

Walking the Mall

Met friends at the Mall of America to walk the three main levels, about 3 miles, chatting all the way. I last visited in 2011.

Covered Bridge

Walked across this unusual Mississippi double-deck bridge, while avoiding a chilly wind. The enclosed walkway protects students from the elements as they cross between two University of Minnesota campuses. Periodically, a light rail train rumbles beneath.

Ice Sauna

On my chilly Minneapolis North Loop walk, with temperatures hovering in the single digits (Fahrenheit), spotted a woman in a bikini walking outside. It took me a few moments to realize she was walking from a wood-fired sauna to an ice sauna.

Ice Elephant

Walked the skyways of downtown St. Paul. Ventured outside briefly to admire the Winter Carnival ice sculptures at Rice Park.
