Repurposed Containers

Repurposed two empty pill containers as cases for my spectacles and earbuds for our upcoming trip. They’re sturdy, lightweight, and they don’t open accidentally. Best of all, they were free!

Piece of a 747

Walked over to Zen Box Izakaya to pick up the charge card I’d left behind last Saturday, so of course we had to have ramen. I’d canceled the card, but wanted to hold onto it. It includes a layer of aluminum from a Northwest Airlines/Delta 747. I like to think I flew on it to… Continue reading Piece of a 747

Getting my Coffee Fix

Made a pourover using a product I’ve not seen here. Every morning, in my hotel room in Japan, I made pourover coffees. Unlike pods, it’s biodegradable and it tastes pretty good. At home I prefer to grind my own, but when traveling it’s a convenient option.

Last Arizona hike today. Inspired by Marie Kondo, thanked a hiking sock for its service before discarding. It should’ve departed a long time ago as it had lost most of its cushion. My feet are happy with synthetic: comfortable, they wick, no blisters, and overnight wash and dry.

Ready for Quick Getaway

Prepared for an early flight tomorrow morning to Chicago. I’ll explore on foot and shared bicycles (hence the helmet) then fly back in the evening.

A Request from Her Majesty

I now have Her Britannic Majesty watching my back: my British passport arrived today. I’ll usually travel on my US passport, but a second passport might help me to work around nationality-dependent Covid restrictions.

Backup Passport

Spent much of the afternoon applying for a UK passport: my old one expired 15 years ago. Post-Covid travel with 2 passports may give more flexibility: when I arrive at London LHR later this year, I’ll choose the shortest immigration line. (Current wait times are up to 7 hours.)
