We drove almost as far as we could to the northwest of New Zealand’s South Island to Golden Bay, named for the gold mining that took place here in the 19th century. Where Gold Miners Walked
Walked through a subtropical forest in the footsteps of 19th century gold miners in nearby Kahurangi National Park. It’s New Zealand’s second-largest national park, one of the least-visited, and slightly off the beaten path; a good choice for B-list travelers.
Air New Zealand Lav.
Flew Air New Zealand from Honolulu to Auckland. Appreciated the lavatory decor.

Avoiding the Wrath of the TSA
Avoided the wrath of the TSA. Filled 3 fluid ounce silicone travel bottles with sunscreen and toothpaste.
Contrail Over PSP
Contrail over Palm Springs PSP. Time to go home.
Sunrise at MSP
The sun rose over MSP while we waited to board our flight to Salt Lake City, en route to Palm Springs, California.
Change of Plan
Airside at MSP. Learned our connecting flight was delayed, and wouldn’t arrive at our destination until almost midnight Pacific. Changed the flights at no cost via the Delta app to tomorrow morning, then rode the LRT back home.
Happy Baby, ORD—HND
View from our seats: in-flight entertainment, 12-hour ANA flight, Chicago to Tokyo. It was a happy baby: happy babies make me smile. I’d bought cheap Economy tickets early to snag exit row seats at no extra cost. The baby spent most of the journey in a bassinet.
