Family get-together at Misono. This was one plate among many. It’s definitely American sushi, but I’d like to think even Japanese people would enjoy it. Enjoyed the company, including my nephews, now 17 and 18. I encouraged them to travel to Sweden, Hokkaido, or beyond… I’d gladly pay for their tickets.

Celebrating love under a political cloud
Marked our 5th wedding anniversary (and nearly 40 years together) with Indigenous cuisine at Owamni by The Sioux Chef. Today we’re reminded that we rushed to marry, fearing the 2020 election and the overturning of our rights. The actions of the current Administration and Supreme Court renew those fears.
From IKEA to art
Saw the “Jessi Reaves: process invented the mirror” exhibition at the Walker today, featuring impractical furniture built from found objects. I couldn’t stop remembering a day when Dwight and I were a great source of amusement for my father-in-law as we struggled to assemble an IKEA storage unit for him. This exhibition really took the idea of “furniture as a challenge” to the next level.
Family gathering at Misono
We feasted on American-style sushi: it’s actually delicious. I ate too much.
Sunday dinner with family
Dinner with my sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a nephew at Misono Asian Bistro, which is midway between our homes. Caught up on life’s events over sushi (one of two trays shown here) and various starters, including gyoza.
My first baby shower
Well, that was something new for me today: I attended my first baby shower. Our nephew and his wife, who are expecting a daughter, flew up from Houston, TX, for the event at my sister-in-law’s house. It was a chance to reconnect with family and enjoy some cake.
Family gathering around trays of sushi
Demolished trays of sushi while catching up with family news.
Good Eats
Substantial dinner after planning a trip to Italy next spring with my sister- and brother-in-law: pork ribs, pork belly, walleye, roast Brussels sprouts.
Santa’s Been to the ATM
Carefully curated Christmas presents for our teenage nephews were about to be tastefully packaged in envelopes. Our entire Christmas gift shopping.
A Merry Countdown.
My thoughtful sister-in-law has gifted us an early Christmas present: an advent calendar filled with 24 miniature wine bottles, all different. Each day we’ll open a new door to reveal another liquid delight.
