The evening began with pre-show drinks at a pop-up Kit Kat bar before a sold-out performance of Cabaret at the Guthrie. Having revisited the story through the movie, a touring Broadway production, and Isherwood’s Berlin Stories over the years, the play’s dark themes felt timely tonight. Tomorrow, the daily news of rising authoritarianism in our own country awaits.

In the Beginning…
On my walk: a Baskin-Robbins in a strip mall. As a teenager, former President Obama scooped here. Nearby are his place of birth (Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children) and the apartment where he lived with his single mom.
Identical Ballots
Mailed two identically marked ballots for the midterms. One was mine.
Thirteen Polling Places
Cycled with a friend to thirteen polling places. Usually we would expect to see long lines, but so many have voted absentee, poll workers sometimes outnumbered voters. People were in a good mood, happy to chat with us.

Received my ballot for the general election. I’ll hand carry the completed ballot to a drop-off point at Hennepin County Government Center.

Filled out a ballot for the Minnesota Primary. The election will determine who is on the November ballot for both US Senators, US and Minnesota Representatives, Governor, Minnesota Attorney General, County Commissioner, County Sheriff, and two Minneapolis
