A Corner of Japan

Paused preparations for our upcoming home move to seek comfort (food) at our local Japanese restaurant, Zen Box Izakaya: tonkotsu ramen. NHK (Japanese television) was showing a segment about cleaning airport toilets. “It’s good to think of others,” declared one of the cleaners.

First Lunch of 2019

Surly Furious and Summit EPA (local brews) plus Reubens. Lunch at our local (Maxwell’s), New Year’s Day 2019.

Christmas Food, UK-Style

Enjoyed Christmas pudding, ice cream, and whipped cream. Later we had Christmas cake which a friend made in the UK and managed to get through customs.

Hazel’s

On a Nordeast Minneapolis walk with a friend, stopped into Hazel’s for a caloric brunch. Top-notch food, and art that demanded attention.

Marmalade Run

Cycled over to Lunds & Byerlys to stock up on marmalade. My rules for marmalade are simple:…It doesn’t have “jelly” or “spread” on the label…Made with good, old-fashioned sugar (no other sweeteners)…You can’t read through it…Enjoying the marmalade requires chewing.

Open Books

Slowed down for breakfast at Open Book’s cafe. Hundreds of miniature open books hang from the ceiling.

Good for the Soul

It was a good day for lunch with tater tots, and pulled pork topped with crispy onions, washed down with Surly Furious. Coleslaw provided guilt-alleviating cruciferous.
