Round Every Corner
Wetland view from the Cannon Valley Trail, cycling from Welch to Red Wing, then back to Welch. In Red Wing our destination was a cafe specializing in pies, but it had closed early. My friend didn’t miss a beat and led me to a bake shop round the corner.
Dunn Bros
Stopped for coffee in a building constructed in 1879 by the Milwaukee Road railroad company.
Old-Fashioned
Monday morning rendezvous with an old-fashioned.

On my cycle ride, foraged for local products that might be low on the nutrition scale, but essential nonetheless: Bauhaus beer (brewed in Minneapolis), Peace Coffee (roasted in Minneapolis), and Izzy’s ice cream (milk from Wisconsin cows).
No Spandex
Cycled the 28th Street Greenway, Chain of Lakes, Minnehaha Creek, Mississippi. Topped up with beer and flatbread at Longfellow’s. On the final stretch, we were reminded we were in a different league when a guy in lime green spandex, precisely matched to his bicycle, overtook us.
Today I Declined a Free Cookie
It was too hot a day to cycle past an ice cream store I’ve never tried. This was their smallest portion; I declined the “free cookie.
Let the Corn Season Begin
Tonight: our first taste of Minnesota corn this season.

A friend asked us to sample two types of brownies baked by his wife, then choose our favorite. They got shaken in my backpack on a cycle ride, but that didn’t affect the experience. Halved each to be sure we each sampled each type. Concluded they were equally good.
