Took this shot of the San Francisco skyline just after breakfast in Sausalito. We then rode a Marin Transit bus to a point north of Muir Woods, dropped off our backpacks at an inn where we’re staying tonight, then hit the trails.
At the highest point on our hike we could see the Pacific and San Francisco Bay. In this shot, San Francisco can just be discerned in the haze:
The Pacific is just off-camera to the right.
Over the next few days we’ll walk a circuitous path to San Francisco.
Saw this in the Guardian and thought it might interest you for your next trip here both: https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2024/apr/30/you-can-walk-virtually-everywhere-in-england-by-using-the-train-the-man-connecting-rail-based-walks – there’s a new website called railwalks.co.uk that offers a galaxy of A to B walks that connect to rail stations and that are entirely on footpaths and open access routes…
Thanks, a most interesting article, a great idea. I actually read that article–Google automatically brought it to my attention. It got Dwight and me imagining a long trip to Britain where we would travel around by train and do day hikes. Maybe in 2026!
